ComparePetCover is an independent comparison site operated by Yassine Dekkak. This page explains what data is collected when you use the site, who receives it, and how to turn tracking off.
What we collect
- Usage data, through Google Analytics. The pages you view, how you arrived, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics stores a unique identifier in a cookie in your browser. It runs by default when you open a page, until you decline. It does not run if your browser blocks site storage, and if your device is set to a European time zone or to UTC it runs only after you click Accept. Our Analytics tag is set not to use Google signals or ad personalization.
- Visit counts, through impact.com, only if you click Accept. On most pages, an impact.com tag then records the pages you view so our affiliate network can count visits. impact.com uses cookies and identifiers to do this.
- Paid partner links. If a link on this site is a paid partner link, clicking it passes through impact.com, whatever your choice in the banner, so that a referral fee can be credited to us if you request a quote from an insurer. Our affiliate network then reports that referral to us.
- Server logs. Our host, Vercel, processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect the site.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
Google and impact.com may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites. There are no forms on this site. The cost calculator runs in your browser, and what you enter in it is not sent to us. What you enter on an insurer's site goes to that insurer, under its own privacy policy.
Who receives it
Google (analytics), Vercel (hosting), impact.com (the affiliate network) and, when you click a partner link, the insurer you visit. The insurer may know that you arrived through our link and use that for its own marketing. These providers process data in the United States. We do not sell lists of personal information. When a paid partner link earns us a referral fee, and when analytics and affiliate cookies run, some US state laws may treat that as a sale or sharing of personal information; declining in our banner and Global Privacy Control turn our tags off.
Your choices
- Decline in our cookie banner. This turns off Google Analytics and the impact.com tag on our pages in this browser, and deletes their cookies on our site. If another tab of our site is open, it stops tracking when it reloads. A paid partner link, if you click one, still passes through impact.com so the referral can be credited.
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a decline automatically. We do not respond separately to the older Do Not Track signal, which is not standardized.
- Change your choice. Use the Your privacy choices link, also at the bottom of every page, to reopen the banner. Your earlier choice stays in place until you click one of the buttons.
- How long your choice lasts. We store your choice in your browser. Private browsing, clearing site data, or Safari's tracking protection after about seven days without a visit can erase it, and you may then need to decline again. Global Privacy Control avoids this.
- Browser settings. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser.
This privacy policy page does not load Google Analytics or the impact.com tag.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. Email hello@comparepetcover.com to make a request. We will answer within 45 days and will not treat you differently for using these rights. If we refuse a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.
Visitors in the European Union and the United Kingdom
If your device is set to a European time zone or to UTC, Google Analytics and the impact.com tag run only after you click Accept, and we rely on that consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time through Your privacy choices. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Retention
Google Analytics keeps user-level data for the retention period set in our Analytics account, which cannot exceed 14 months on our type of account. impact.com keeps referral records under its own retention policy. Emails are kept as long as needed to answer you.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page.
